As our bodies get older and we have been through our childhood, teens, become middle aged and then start to approach the golden years of our lives, out bodies often tend to slow down and conserve as much energy and nutrients as they can. Almost everyone has heard of the menopause which happens to women, which can also be known as the change of life or going through the change. This is far from an illness and is merely where a woman’s body has decided to stop ovulating, thus meaning she has no more periods. For many women that go through the menopause they can be found to go through it with very little complications or problems at all, and for the unfortunate other it means a very stressful and traumatic time for the individuals encountered.
Some of the symptoms of the menopause can be found to be hot flushes, disturbed sleep, and irritability, problems with the memory and concentration span, vaginal dryness amongst others. As with any type of condition or illness the symptoms can display differently in different people. Some people think that it is only women that go through the menopause, this isn’t entirely correct. Men go through something very similar which is called the andropause. It is highly debatably as to whether or to this condition actually exists, however regardless for the affected gentlemen it can begin over the age of fortyish. A male may experience symptoms such as a lowered sex drive, a higher increase in the individuals body fat, a generally lack of energy, a loss of muscle mass, mood swings, impotence amongst others issues. For both of the sexes there can be certain types of treatments that can help alleviate some of the symptoms that an individual may experience.
First of all the individual that thinks they may be going through the change should ideally seek attention from a doctor to confirm the diagnosis, this way the doctor will be able to advise on the best sort of treatment on an individual basis. Although the going through the change of life is a very common situation and can have some adverse reactions in some people, it is not classified as an insurable illness. This means that critical illness insurance companies will not cover this sort of condition within their policy terms nor will they pay out any potential insurance benefits on it. This may seem unfair but it is so to speak “a normal process” to go through the change or the menopause – andropause.
